DO make sure you are aware of what is covered or excluded in your insurance policy.

DO take pictures of your vehicle, the accident site, and your injuries, if possible.  If your phone does not have camera capabilities, you may want to keep a disposable camera in your glove compartment.

DO take notes when you speak with your insurance company.  Be sure to get the names, titles, and phone numbers of each person you speak with. Write down any information given to you from your communication.  If you are able to communicate through emails, be sure to keep all emails from the company.

DO be truthful when communicating with your insurance company.  Failing to be honest or withholding information may result in loss of coverage.

DO find out if any additional insurance policies you hold may have coverage for the circumstances.

DO keep any receipts for anything in connection with the car accident.  This includes all medical bills, car rentals, any other purchases related to the accident.

DO understand the difference in the replacement value of your car and what you owe on the vehicle.

DON’T talk to anyone else about the accident.
